Poor Engine performance '89 2.8 Firebird
My buddies 89 2.8 Firebird is running rough. Hesitates big time accelerating from idle. Coughs and sputters when accelerating while driving and generally runs rough at idle. Vaccuum hoses have been checked, EGR, PVC, MAF, too. MY SCan Tool may be of help on his car. Last time at brief check the tool did not want to read codes. I was hurried and it might have been a bad connection. What would you do?

Check your timing? You need to unplug that est bypass cable. I'm guessing there no engine light right? You may also have a clogged cat. I would first check your timing.

We don't have a timing light, but we can get one. What is EST? I don't remember if his SES light is on or not. We're getting together tomorrow and I'll use my scan tool if it works else I'll count the SES flashes. A clogged cat is pretty rare right?
