305 to 350 swap....350 rebuild
Hey. my 305 to 350 swap/rebuild just got underway a few days ago. I'm just looking for some general feedback/ideas on the project. It's an 86 Iroc that had a 305. Im now building a 350 to take it's place. I have a new Scat stock replacement crank with all bearings from Sealed Power. A set of coated flatops, an XE268H camshaft, stock stall with 700R4 trans and gear ratio in the 4's...either 4.11 or 4.56. Not 100% sure which. Pocket ported 882 heads. Performer intake, 600cfm edlebrock carb, Msd Streetfire with stock exhaust manifolds....no headers yet, but hopefully soon. Wha kind of HP am I looking at? Does this build sound ok considering it will be a daily driver? Also, what kind of MPG might I be looking at? It's lot info and alot to ask, but I'm anxious to get it on the road, just need some answers to cool the nerves.

Any and all responses are greatly appreciated. THANKS!!

The heads are power and economy killers. Small ports, huge and poorly designed chambers. Pocket porting on them is like going from a soda straw to a Slurpee straw when you need a fire hose.
Your 305 heads would be tons better. With 1.94" intake valves, pocket porting, new valve springs to go with the cam, they would run circles around those 882's on a 350, everything else being equal. With flat tops compression will be a little high, but valve unshrouding and chamber polishing while the pocket porting is being done will help bring chamber size up to a more CR-friendly 64cc's.
That probably didn't do anything to cool the nerves. Sorry.
