start/idle problem =/
so i bought my first thirdgen back in december
its a 1989 5.7l v8 iroc z camaro
i would just go start it regularly during the winter to check it and now i finally got it inspected it needed a new y pipe headlight bracket etc.
it ran great for like two weeks and now when i goto start it the engine turns over but wont idle like it sounds like its bout to start then just goes off
also if i push the gas itll rev but once it drops below 5-10k rpms it turns off, i had to drive to work today keeping my foot on the gas a little to keep it idling
any ideas on the problem? anything to check would help, cuz im 19 and dont know much about mechanical issues yet
thanks

Re: start/idle problem =/
there are a few things to check, vaccum leaks, make sure your idle screw is set so itll idle high enough, make sure your plugs and wires are in good shape, check all your ground connections, your fuel filter, your cat converter, and check your air fuel mixture if its carbed i would start w/ most simple like vaccum leaks idle screw, then id change the fuel filter, it could probably use a new one anyway. usually on cars that old youll find the original filter cuz everyone seems to forget the little things like that. you should be able to blow through it very easily. if you feel your cheeks puff or its difficult at all to blow through it, change it.

thanks ill check those out, probably something like that, the car sat for three years since it had been previously inspected and was deemed an "abandoned vehicle"
but im pretty sure the cat should be fine because it just had exhaust work done when it was in the shop but ill go check the other things you mentioned tommororw hopefully if i can figure out whats where and all that jazz
