Replaced tons of stuff, still have misfire
Replaced tons of stuff, still have misfire
As you can see from this previous thread...

I had some pretty bad symptons with stalling out at an idle, irratic idling, losing power on acceloration, throttle stalling when hammered, backfiring, misfiring the passenger side, and it when the car warmed up and got hot it wouldn't even start back up. Ran the codes and got code 12, and 45.
According to a mechanic and his backpressure tester, I had a clogged Cat Converter so I replaced that. No change whatsoever. Then I had all the fuel injectors replaced after seeing the 6 injector was shorting out the passenger side ones. It's still misfiring. Here is what was tried and replaced in the car for this problem...
Spark Plugs & Wires
Cap/Roter
Entire Distributer
Fuel Filter
O2 Sensor
All 8 Fuel Injectors
Plenum/runner gaskets
Coil
Replacing the injectors made it better and it hasn't stalled out yet, but there is still a misfire somewhere. It's just a little bump that shows up now and then, and especially noticable when you hit the gas. An estimated guess is the car's 97% of what the car should be. Vacuum seems fine. The tester can't seem to locate the misfire because it's so random.
Would a bad temp sensor have anything to do with this? Or do you think this sounds specifically like a bad apple sparkplug from the new pack? What could be the cause of this misfire?

Re: Replaced tons of stuff, still have misfire
Looking at the data will tell you a great many things and either point to the fault or greatly streamline the rest of the troubleshooting process.
Have you eliminated the possibility of any exhaust leak around the manifolds and Y-pipe ?
Have you checked your fuel pressure and eliminated the possibility that the fuel pressure regulator is leaking fuel into the plenum via the vacuum line?
Did you look at all the sparkplugs to narrow down a single cylinder misfire?
Re: Replaced tons of stuff, still have misfire
I just wanted to provide an update. I wound up taking it to the shop with the best mechanic I know, who also happens to be a long time friend of my Dad's. But before doing so, I went ahead and ordered a set of Bosch III's from Jon at Fuel Injector connection. Jon was awesome... I was really on the fence about who to get the injectors from but while inquiring he matched the price so I just placed the order right on the spot. The mechanic determined it was injectors and put in the FIC version of the Bosch design III's and for several months now it's been running great. There was an additional minor misfire (the car was running about 97% correctly after the injector install) but that was from a bad gap in the spark plugs. My mechanic took each plug out and regapped them himself. It's purring like a kitten now.
So thanks Fuel Injector Connection and Milstred Motors (by the airport in Westminster) I am back up and running again and I don't have to get all stressed out about finding rides from family and such. I am happy I took it to Milstred and happy I got the injectors from FIC. I tip my hat off to them.
