broken crossmember

hey don't know if this the right place to post, but I wanted to know has anyone else broken a trans cross-member before on only one side? and how would one side come disconnected? could there be more damage than this?

the reason I ask is because the car I'm looking at has this problem, he said its hanging off on the left side and he doesn't know how it happened and I'm wondering if there could be more damage. He said that I would to take to a shop to get it looked at but thats definitely isn't gonna happen especially when I can probably fix it myself, what do you guys think?

Either the bolts were left loose, or he ran over something, caught the crossmember, and tore it loose.
