can't keep car running

Hi All,

Basically my problem is that my car will not idle right. let me give you a little background on the situation. I rebuilt the engine on my car 2 years ago, last year I put a new carb on it, it seemed to run decent then, but not great. yesterday I decided to start working on it again, I couldnt get it to idle at all, it basically started revved and then died..

well, my car has lower vacuum since the rebuild, so I replaced my power valve, but when I took the front bowl off on my carb, there was all this crap in there. so i cleaned both bowls out with carb cleaner, replaced the power valve and bolted it all back up.. the car started right up, and idled just fine at like 1800 rpms, but when the choke started to kick in, it would idle down and die, it dies abut 1000 rpms.

after it dies.. it wont restart.. i can pump the gas all i want.. no fuel will come through, if i dump a little gas in the carb.. itll start right up.. I'm getting good fuel pressure, and my fuel filter is clean.. any ideas?

engine is a 350
carb is a holley street avenger 670
distributor is msd pro billet hei
the cam is a comp cam thumpr cam

What type of fuel pump are you using? What do you have for fuel filters?

Re: can't keep car running

I'm using a carter mechanical fuel pump, its a stock style pump, with a return line, my pressure looks like im getting about 8psi when my car is running. the filter im using is this http://www.summitracing.com/parts/RUS-645150/?rtype=10

I have a new fuel pump that I'm going to put on, it came with my carb its a holley fuel pump.

I never replaced my fuel lines either, they were from the v6, could they be too small?

i would clean the whole carb and replace the needle assemblies. set the float with 7/16-1/2" space at the top.
