I just got a starter on less than three months ago and it ********* broke. Went to start the car to work after my break and it just spun. I know it was put on right since the fact we had to take it to the shop since one of the bolts was siezed/stripped on and we took it to the pontaic dealership. Well hopefully I can get a one new since it did have a one year warranty. Just was not very happy. I guess its not really thier fault but instead the parts people regardless I am not the most excited person at the moment.

Don't waste your money on reman stuff. I did for years. No more.

Sometimes stuff just breaks, the voltage regulator on my autozone altenator is going out, it is a reman and the autozone quality is hit or miss. but even when I was at the dealer spinning wrenches I saw parts that were defective from the factory. So take that for what its worth.

You get what you pay for. I will pay more for a starter from say NAPA or Carquest rather than waste my time putting on junk. My time is worth not having to do it 3 or 4 times. I will buy some things from the zone like the Goodyear belts & hoses from but I wouldn 't waste time & money on 90% of what they sell.

Which starter did you get? They have several different ones. Some are new and some are rebuilt. Sounds like you got the cheapest one if it has a 1 year warranty.

From what I get, it doesn't matter where you get your part from if it is the cheapest rebuilt. You are taking a gamble. It is best to get the "new" part instead of rebuilt. If you have to get a rebuilt, at least get the more expensive rebuilt.

I'm betting if you bought new, then you wouldn't be having this problem right now.

From what I get, it doesn't matter where you get your part from if you buy the cheapest rebuilt they have. You are taking a gamble. Also, Napa sells alot of the same parts as Autozone and other stores.

Around 5 years ago, the shop I went to used Napa parts. I had to have everything I got from there replaced 2-3 times within a year or so. Alternator, starter, radiator, water pump, master cylinder, etc. I was in the shop at least once a month getting something replaced for the 2nd or 3rd time. I don't know what parts they used if they were rebuilt or new.

I had a month old Napa starter go out on me when I was out of town. This was 5 years ago. So, I had to stop by Autozone and turn in that month old Napa alternator as a core for an Autozone alternator. That Autozone alternator is still running. Same as the battery I had replaced that day too since I killed the battery in the car running it with no charge from the alternator.

When you get your parts, try and buy new if you can. If not, at least try and get the higher priced rebuilt.

Even 'NEW' is not actually new, despite what they tell you... its still a reman, theres just been more parts replaced than with the 'REMAN' labelled reman parts LOL!

What parts are we talking about? Every part listed as new? Sometimes I see a part listed as 100% new. Are they lying about it?

If what you are saying is correct, then it looks like the "new" parts would still be a better way to go.

Re: Oh how I love autozone ...
I dunno what parts specifically, its been a few years since I did any parts retail lol... But '100% new' does not mean '100% of the components are new' just '100% more new parts than the cheaper one!'

Re: Oh how I love autozone ...
And gets better for me ... crawled under to change it got the first bolt off and then I noticed that the dealership put the stripped one but back in!!!!!!! WTF!!!!! Really I brought it there since it was stripped and they didnt even replace the damned thing. Looks like I am going to buy something to get it off since I wont be paying them another 300 for something I have done before.

Re: Oh how I love autozone ...
See a lot of parts from Azone with only a three month up to one year warranty these days. Long term and lifetime seem to be a thing of the past. Advance still has the long term on some of their parts that I've used recently.

Re: Oh how I love autozone ...
I need to get a new front ball joint. I've had two fall apart on the passenger side while driving. Where the control arm is laying on the ground.

The third one I noticed is starting to fall apart. I have no idea why the hell the same ball joint keeps falling apart. But I think I'm gonna get a Moog ball joint with lifetime warranty.
