runs rich regardless and fuel drains lines
hey guys,
just lookin for some insight. i have a carbed 77 350 motor. some issues,,, always burns rich no matter what i do... when it sits the fuel drains out of the lines i dont know why it does that. also i can smell gas pretty strong after i shut it off from a ride around town.
anyone know what can cause this.\
some info: 77 350 edleb. perf. intake edleb. 600 carb . took the elect. pump out of the tank and put steel line in place of it, now running man pump on engine block... all these things are fairly new. i have had the intake on and off again a few times already with this supposedly reuseable gasket. i cant detect any leaks, but im sure it wouldnt hurt to replace again. it starts good hot or cold and has lots of power. also the cam is new, a very mild upgrade from stock. new timing gears and headers. the only time i have a starting issue is when the fuel drains out i obviously have to turn it over many more times to start it and when it does start it blows black out the exhaust. also no emisions whatsoever.
do i have a vaccume leek from the intake that could cause this or is it something with the carb \
anyone have any ideas

Fuel drain back issue can be caused by faulty fuel pump whether or not they are electric or manual!! Usually the check valve gets corroded, and then doesn't seat properly!!
Could it be that your running the wrong gas cap??? Non-vented vs vented required???
Running rich can be caused by fuel system pressure, and/or wrong float setting, big one is wrong mixture settings (lean it out)!!

Not to jack the thread, but what difference does a different gas cap make? Is there signs to tell if one is faulty (as in noises)?
Also, whats the difference on vented and non-vented gas caps?

Vented gas cap - lets air in & out with changes in tank internal pressure. Illegal for our cars since the tank is supposed to be vented via the vapor canister.
Non-vented gas cap - keeps fuel vapors from being vented directly to the atmosphere from the fuel fill. The only legal cap on our cars. A faulty one will not pass a leak test.
