Its running like a raped ape!
Ive been adjusting my valve preload to zero lash then i preload them with 1/2 turn. Its been running sluggish and popping out the exhaust. So i readjusted them with only 1/8 of a turn as one of the top contributors of hotrodders.com suggested. Wow, what a difference! No more hesitation, exhaust sounds clean, no more pops in the exhaust and it just runs so smooth. Sorry for the little rant, but ive been trying to get my car running right for a while... and all this time it was as simple as the valve lash...
I also have a small question though, I know nothing about AC and cant find the right forum to ask the question in. The car has the compresser and ect, and the guy who had the car before me had just bought everything knew. He said all i need now is the hose that connects the compressor to the canister type thing near firewall. I have the condensor and everything. After find the hose and hook it up, what do i have to do to add the freon or is there a way to check for leak before i put the expensive stuff in it?

The cooling board, which covers all types of cooling, would be the proper place.I will go ahead and try to help.A moderator may move it though.
IIRC,or was told by someone the line your talking about is discontinued. If thats true you could pick one up at a j/y.If its damaged or has a leak in it you should be able to find a place to fix it by replacing the hose or welding the aluminum.A couple places around me do it.Had one fixed on my truck and it only cost like 45 bucks.
Adding the freon is one of the easiest things you can do to a car.

Re: Its running like a raped ape!
rock auto or eBay is your best bet... they cost about 50 dollars... a big change compared to 150 dollars as recently as 8-10 years ago...
well now I stand corrected apparently it's not available anymore... did a quick search on eBay and the only year I found was for 88-91... so if you have an 88-91 setup I'd grab it immediately.... don't know if you are running a 87 setup since your profile says you have an 87 GTA...

Re: Its running like a raped ape!
i like the raped ape saying lol. and it wouldnt hurt to set it. If you take a piece of paper, put it agains the tailpipe while its running and see what happens. if the paper gets sucked in blowed out, either a valve is burned or the valve is too tight. If it just blows away, its all healthy and the problem is elsewhere. Maybe fuel delivery or igntion timing.

Re: Its running like a raped ape!
are you detonating? maybe drop the timing and use an octane booster in your next few gallons and take it to the strip on a test and tune night.
