Which Intake Manifold Gasket to Use

Blew the intake manifold gasket on my 85 iroc-z 305 (F) with TPI. Trying to decide what brand and kit i should get to replace it. Never done this before so any help on how, watch out for's, or make sure u get bla would be great. I will also be changing out eh whats it called... butterfly seals (burning some oil). So help there wouldn't hurt either.

Curious how you blew out the intake manifold gaskets.

Personally, I don't see a big difference between gasket brands. Fel Pro is usually a safe choice.

Well, except Mr. Gasket. I avoid their products like the plague. They've gotten worse than poor lately.

"Butterfly seals"? If using oil, I'd guess you mean "valve stem seals", often referred to as "valve seals". You should be able to find information about how to change them without removing the heads with a search.

Although it is possible for bad intake manifold gaskets to cause oil leakage.

I'd do the FelPro intake gaskets, then see if it's still burning oil. If so, then do valve stem seals.

I meant to say, "Although it is possible for bad intake manifold gaskets to cause oil burning."

Re: Which Intake Manifold Gasket to Use

Yah valve seals is what i was referring to, sorry bout that. I whomped on the gas real hard and laid down a black strip on a cold engine. Smelled the coolant after that. That would be lucky if it was just the gasket but its been barely puffing a ball of smoke when i start it for 2 years now. After i crossed country 2kmi its smoking worse. Btw i read that there were certain GM motors in which they put plastic gaskets on and they went out around 50-80k, and I'm just about to hit 50. Thanks for the replies.
