Crankshaft Corrosion

Hey guys,
I have a 350 Crankshaft that had dried oil down the middle of every main journal. This is most likely because of the bottom main bearing having that groove down the middle and this engine sitting for such a long time. Anyway, I bought some 2000 grit sandpaper and knocked all the oil off. The journals aren't completely shiny though. Now the problem, on the front journal, just in the center when a big clump of dried oil was, there are pits or small grooves in the journal. I'm guessing the oil corroded the middle in the years it was sittings. Is the crank still good with the pits just being right in the center where that groove is on the main bearings? The sides of the journals are good and the pits don't have sharp edges. I don't really want to turn it but will it need to be? Let me know what you think.

Thanks
Wyatt

Re: Crankshaft Corrosion

First, lightly go over it with a scotch brite pad. Go the way the crank turns, not front to back, across the journal. Second, get us some good pics.
