081 heads or the 416s?

Im new to the third gens and chevy engines. I have heard lots of talk about which heads are better, either the 081s or the 416s. Im not sure which to go with. The heads I have on my car right now are the 081s and they need valve seals in a bad way so I need to rebuild anyway. I do have a set of 416s on a shelf that also need to be rebuilt.

The plan is to go with one set or the other and have a little machine work done to them. Im looking into a three angle valve job, possibly machined for screw in studs, 1.94 intake valves (depending on cost), and porting (to be done myself).

Which heads would be best for low end torque and drivability?

The 081s, definitely. Mostly for their improved, more efficient combustion chambers. It makes a difference.

Thank you for your input. Is there anyone else out there that has anything to offer on this subject?

I am using 081's on my rebuild too. Slowly porting them whenever time allows. Nothing to radical, just a good clean up for a little better flow.

same heads.. 081's just use the 87-95 bolt pattern and 416's are pre-87..

No. The 081s have smaller, more efficient combustion chambers. They do make a difference. 081s are better.
