Power Steering Pump Help

I am trying to take the power steering pump out of a 1989 GTA with the 5.7 350 in it. I have the chilton and the haynes manual but one says remove the pulley first the other says not to remove the pulley first. I can see at least one bolt that has to come off. Can anybody help how does this come off and are any special tools needed.

Thanks

Re: Power Steering Pump Help

I find it easier to just remove the whole bracket at the same time. I've never gotten the pulley off the pump, nor have I ever gotten the pump free from the bracket. I just pretend that that is the way it must be, the only way it can be, and move on to "more important" (to me) things.

Re: Power Steering Pump Help

Borrow a special tool for this type of pulley from a parts store. My tool has a bearing nut which most pullers do no not. To use an impact wrench as in the video you'll need to remove the entire accessory bracket because the pumps bolts are not accessible until the pulley is removed.

Thanks for the help. I bought a 10 pulley puller from Harbor freight and after a little muscle it came off. It was a bit of a pain.

Unless it came off rather easily, See this video the 10 pulley puller has warped the pulley that's why a puller that pulls at the hub is required.
