Repair Suprises
I had a coolant leak between intake and head. The shop says this is not uncommon. 100k miles, 20 year old car. I figured lets replace the valve guides/ seals and the shop said surface the heads. I said lets replace the cam. Its an "E" engine. LO3. We found it to have a roller cam. Our information says it should be a flat tappet . Just a suprise. Has anyone had a similar experience??

Re: Repair Suprises
Your info was just wrong that's all. LO3's are rollers. But not all 305's are LO3's - the prior years 305's (like the LG4's) were not rollers.
Re: Repair Suprises
Yeah, it should have a roller cam. All the V8s in passenger cars from 87-up should have a roller cam. A surprise would be the time I opened up a 1987 vintage L03 and found a flat tappet cam in it. That shouldn't have been the case but that's what it had.
