cyl three no compression
cyl three no compression
was driving today and car sounded like it was mission out nowhere
was checking the plugs and everything checked out mine. limped it home to dig in deeper. where i found air and gas shooting out of carb. when i checked compression for number 3 cyl, needle budged but barely at all... maybe like 2 psi, then back down. other cylinders pressing about 125psi. motor only has about 1000 miles on it. guy who rebuilt it has been rebuilding them for 40 years. he did a three angle valve seat job on it. im thinking bent valve or bad seat. i pulled the rocker cover off and the valve is functional, and valve lash is still good on intake valve. im calling the guy who did the job tommorow and probably taking head off and bringing it in, just want to know what anyone else might think.

Re: cyl three no compression
125 psi after just 1000 miles?!?! That truly sucks! It should be more like 175. You must be running a 292 cam in an 8.5:1 engine in Denver.
And from what you describe, I'm thinking an issue with the piston / rings.
Redo the compression test with another tester, and if it also says 125, just redo the whole engine.
In fact, an issue with the rings might explain all of them being so low.

Re: cyl three no compression
i agree with attilla. you are losing air somehow and the only logical possibility would be a ring problem unless you bent a couple pushrods and your valves are stuck open. can you hear where the air goes. also as attilla noted, 125 psi is not very good for a fresh rebuild.
