Distributor Gear Size

For my current engine build, I have decided to get a new composite distributor gear. What size gear do I need to get? .491 or .500 diameter shaft? It has a factory coil in cap HEI distributor. Thanks

Re: Distributor Gear Size

all of the factory HEI's that ive had to deal with (1987 and up) have a shaft diameter that is smaller than .491 and .500. i had to go junk yard shopping for a different gear or wait for a part out of canada.

.491" is Factory sizing, .500" is for aftermarket distributors such as a MSD

Edit: to clarify, yours will have a .491" shaft
