code reader/analyzer

This 92 Z is my first toy with a computer. I would like to know is there a code reader/analyzer or books that will help me with diagnosing the problems that will pop up on an 18 year old car? I have never worked on TPI or any other electronic fuel system (I’m an old Q-Jet guy trying to get out of the dark ages) and any knowledge about how she is running is always a good tool. Thanks again to everyone in this forum, very helpful bunch of folks. Jim

Re: code reader/analyzer

I use an Autoxray 6000 but there are plenty of others out there, many for less than $100. It will display 'live' data as well as codes. Just make sure to get one with the correct cable for ALDL. Some of them will require you to purchase the older style cables separately.

You can also do the laptop data thing with WinALDL or another available program and the appropriate cable.
