Question about engine casting numbers, also ruff idle

I have all the paperwork for my total cars history the last two owners where related and mechanics. Now the paperwork all says the long block purchased was a 5.7 and so do the emissions paperwork.

I really looked it over and was like thats werid nothing on the new engine build shows 305 it shows it as 350.

I baught it as a second car thinking it would be a fixer upper 305 tbi and knowing it didnt have much power with tbi. I just wanted a second car and looking for automatic sports cars to cruise around in when the day is right.

On the new block where are the casting number so I can see if my 305 tbi is really an lo5 350 tbi?

So far the only problem on this car since everything works is the ruff idle maybe you guys can shed some light on why the idle might be ruff but it runs fine 1000rpm and up. I checked for vaccum leaks and I think I found one around the gasket on the top of the manifold where the tbi stuff sits.

Re: Question about engine casting numbers, also ruff idle

5.7 is a 350, you contradicted yourself.. anyway the casting numbers are on the back of the block where the bellhousing mates to the trans on the drivers side. It's like 9 digits long? Some blocks say 305 or 350 on them, but its not too common.

It's probably a vacuum leak if it isn't breaking up on the top end. A vacuum leak around the intake manifold would defiantly cause a rough idle.

Re: Question about engine casting numbers, also ruff idle

Yea im aware a 5.7 is a 350 but im driving an 89 camaro rs 700r4 that I thught was supose to be a 305 because thats what it orginially came with if it turns out to be they used a lo5 5.7 200hp only then I can go crazy with upgrades if its not a 305.

They make many more upgrades for a 350 then the smaller blocks.

Ahh heres the list of casting numbers.

Does that include aftermarket blocks?

So my block is painted a greenish color if that means anything and im going to look at the back for the casting number.
