Piston Stop Tool
Hey all i got a piston stop tool from summit / http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-900189/
Its adjustable and i was wondering how long do i make the stop.. i made it to where the bolt is flush with the nut. Its going into vortec heads if that makes a difference. I did notice it would let the balancer move a little one way or another depending on how deep or shallow i made it. Just wondering what the correct length i should have went for?
Also i forgot to loosen the valves for cyl 1 when using the stop. Could that have thrown me off a bit? I didnt feel any resistance or anything. The balancer turned 1 time then would stop.. Hmm... I think i might have booboo'd that up. haha

Re: Piston Stop Tool
You need to remove the rockers for that cylinder so that the valves don't open and hit the stop. You could damage the valves or the piston stop.
You can screw the stop in as much or as little as you want. It just needs to be in far enough so that the piston makes contact with the stop. To calculate TDC you need to use a piston stop and a degree wheel to calculate where on the degree wheel the piston will be exactly at TDC. The piston stop alone won't do that.
I'm not going to go into exactly how to find TDC. Comp Cams plus many other web sites have detailed instructions on how to do it.
