Electrical smoke smell underside pass. dash HELP
I have an 83 Trans Am with a 327 in it (it did have the ceasefire in it). New motor with only a little over 100 miles on it. I removed all of the ecm harness wires in the dash, I think. I drove a 70 mile hwy drive with no problems, no smoke at all.
It just started doing this...when I drive the car, especially when I have to accelerate harder, like to get up a hill, smoke comes out from the bottom of the dash on the passenger side. It smells like burning plastic/electrical burning. I've replaced the blower motor, and checked under the dash..nothing. It doesn't burn when in park idling, only in drive and it smokes worse when I get on it, and when I let off the gas to simple driving down the road, it doesn't smoke as bad. What is this?? I'm at a loss.
Could it be the speaker wires? Heater core? I don't see any water on the floor or hear gurling, and no coolant leaks anywhere in or outside the car. It smoked really bad one day and I had to pull over. Popped the hood, no smoke in engine compartment, only interior.
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

Electrical insulation burning has a unique smell.
You don’t sound sure when say heater core.
Take a piece of scrap wire and burn some insulation to verify the smell.
You can remove the knee bolster, and have a powerful flashlight ready.
Blast up a hill, pull over, and inspect for smoke so you can localize it.
You might be able to locate a burned area by just inspection before the rocket run up the hill.

Re: Electrical smoke smell underside pass. dash HELP
Found the problem!!.
It is the AC heater blower motor resistor. I found 2 burnt leaves stuck in the unit and melted plastic on the outside connections. The metal connections are burnt brown. The leaves must have shorted it out causing it to overheat.
Getting a new one tonight.
