engine problems
this isnt about my third gen but im pretty sure if it was happening to it then the problem would be the same. Ok I also own a 2000 dodge intrepid that I got from my 17 year old sister. Whenever I get into the car and Im driving down the road and decide to punch it the car gets up to 3000 RPMs and the engine hits a wall and you need to let off the gas before it will shift. The wierd thing is that it doesnt always happen though. Also my sister used to have a set of 12 inch subs in the car that her boyfriend hooked up and it was very obvious he had no idea what he was doing. The car was fine before the installation of the subs. THe car also has trouble starting because you need to crank it for about five seconds before it starts. And the wierdest thing yet is that the car doesnt even have 60,000 miles on it yet. All help is appreciated.

Re: engine problems
Now that's an apples to oranges comparison!
Intrepid is a sidewinder (front wheel drive) - unless someone here just happens to have one and worked on it, you're probably SOL asking here.
But, I'll throw two things out there...
1) starting - should have a fuel pump relay same as our cars that primes the pump for the initial start - maybe relay is bad and pump not priming, thus no fuel to injectors until the secondary mechanism kicks in to run the pump - on 3rd gens secondary mechanism is usually the oil pressure sending unit - so get under car at gas tank and listen for the fuel pump to prime when someone turns key on for you.
2) Amp wire - make sure that large amp wire has been run so that it'll never short anywhere - I've seen that wire run through the pass door, get rubbed by the door opening/closing, short on the body, which shorts the battery until it overheats and explodes - makes a really big fire!
Search the web for a Dodge forum for definite answers - 99% of us really wouldn't have a clue, and threads here must be 3rd gen F body related. Good luck!
