Knock Sensor Help!
i got a code 43 and decided to buy a new knock sensor and replace it, hoping to eliminate the knock sensor problem. i went to the auto parts store and bought one, it was like a BWD brand or something. for one, its very different from the one i unscrewed. and 2, when i tried to screw the new one in, the threads on the new knock sens were much smaller, so it didnt even screw in!
i went back and checked all of them, the '91 knock sensors, the '89s the 350's and even the 305's theyre all the same! im stumped.
the block is from an 89 trans am. and its in my '91 camaro now, with MAP setup. my ecm shell is from a v6 for wiring and the prom is a v8 chip.
with that being said, i have no idea if i happen to find one with the correct bolt pattern, should i get it for the years 90-92?
and does anyone have a recommendation on where to get the correct one from..ac delco? im so stumped. any help will be appreciated. i searched for a long time and havent goten anywhere..

Re: Knock Sensor Help!
The thread in the block was the same for all GenI engines from 1955 ( and LTX as well IIRC ) so KC you bought is obvious not for your engine
Have only ever seen factory style KC; regardless of brand.I have a Sorensen KC on the shelf and it looks identical to stock

Re: Knock Sensor Help!
just took some pics. thats really weird that you say the threads should be the same on all GenI blocks...makes me wonder what block im using.
we checked like every single knock sens for 3rd gens at the auto store...to no avail.
heres the pics, hopefully someone can figure out what it is..theres numbers on the part that sticks in the block, if you cant read them they are; 235 17 E8 and the letter "F" in the middle..thanks again guys.

Re: Knock Sensor Help!
thats weird...i coulda sworn it was in the block..pass side under the exhaust header by the oil dip stick. and when i unscrewed it, all the water drained out like it said it would in the manual for the knock sensor
wow, i see what you mean..its further down. sorry, i feel like an idiot! everything just seemed to add up, but as you said its the fan temp sensor. at least i learned something new lol.
Im still trying to figure out though, do i need a KS for 89 and older? or 90-92 since its in my '91 and im running MAP....even though the block is an 89.
thanks guys, and AC.
