Built a '88 Trans Am GTA from a pile of parts...

First of all, let me say you guys would be very proud of me because a couple of you may know I had a 1986 Camaro Z28 that I couldn't find the money to fund anymore so I sold it for $2,500. I found a 1988 GTA Trans Am that was basically junk, but the guy only wanted $1,200 for it in my area. It had 40,000 less miles than my Camaro had. It was completely taken apart and needed a lot replaced. I've already replaced: The exhaust manifold, the weatherstripping, starter, catalytic converter, and a whole lot more. Anyway, I just have a few general questions...

I'm positive I didn't spill any oil when I changed it, but the past 2 times I've started with (so I believe) everything in place it has smoked white smoke right below where the oil cap is. It's not coming out of it or anywhere on the surface. It's below it. I hope it's just something burning off, but I assume this is normal for a car that has been sitting and I finally just got it in order...

I didn't think to check the temperature gauge when this happened, but I turned the engine off after crusting around the yard for a while and then went to go start it back up and I noticed something running before I even got to the point where it did start up. I got out and checked and one of the fans was running, but the other one wasn't. I tested them with power and they both are functional and the wiring is putting out power too, is this normal for one fan to run all the time or how does it work?

This is my first time owning a 350 so let me know anything I need to know. I could definitely feel the thrust improvement over the 305.

Fan 1 is always on when computer is in diagnostic mode. See if there's a short, or a paperclip jammed in the ALDL port. Check your valve cover gaskets (or alignment in general) for the smoking problem.

If the car got hot enough to kick on that fan when running, then didnt sit long enough to cool down enough for the fan to shut off once the key was turned on again, when you turn the key on, voltage is applied to the fan via the fan switch in the pass. side head, which tells the ECM that the engine is hot enough for the fan. I hope that made sense, if not lemme know and I can try to re-explain it when not tired lol.

I got the same issue with the fan. I used the GN switch and my fan usually turns on if I get out and then hop back in, like going to a gas station.
