is there an actual benefit to roller tip rockers?

i was just wondering if theres an actual benefit to them, im doing a cam/lifter swap and am also getting new pushrods, would it be worth the 84.99 for the roller tips or are my stock ones good? its just on a 305 with flat tops and 416 heads, headers, diff intake and carb also, just need to know if its really worth it

Re: is there an actual benefit to roller tip rockers?

Well it depends on a couple things
First, would your heads handle the lift of the new cam plus a set of 1.6 rockers? If so, then buy the 1.6 rockers and get them in roller style. One of those "might as well" type things

If you're just replacing 1.5s with 1.5s, then no, you wont notice the difference. You'd only notice the difference if it was a monster engine and you were trying to force every last bit of power out. Considering it's a 305 with 416 heads, I'd say you're not building a 'monster' motor.

Then you will need to replace the valve covers too.

Some roller tip rockers and all full roller rockers require a taller valve cover. It just depends on how tall the new rockers are.

Speaking in absolute terms like "all" can be misleading. Not all full rollers require taller covers. i swapped to ARP 1.900" tall screw in studs, checked and found 7.200" pushrods were the right length and the stock covers dropped right on. So some "yes"; "all" no.

My son's 96 LT1 Vette didn't need different/taller covers when I installed Scorpion 1.7, 7/16" full bodied roller rockers last year.
