My ignition seems to be stuck. My key won't turn it. It's locked somehow and won't turn. I have no idea how to fix it. Any ideas?

 

Are you all the way in park?

 

This happended to me. It was my ignition switch. Not the cylinder where the keys go, but the switch located halfway down the steering column.

Besides checking to make sure your in park, have you tried turning the steering wheel a little both ways while turning the key?

 

It's all the way in park. My shifter is locked in park, my steering wheel is locked, and the key won't turn. What's sad is I just got it back from the mechanic doing the engine swap. I drove it back to my house, cleaned the interior, then bam can't turn the key. WTF. All I wanna do is drive it finally and I can't.

 

If the wheel is locked then try turning the wheel a little. It wont move much but there may just be too much pressure on the locking mechanisim and turning the wheel a little could take the pressure off.

 

I've been trying that for the last hour and nothing. Still won't turn. I can turn it backwards but not forward. I'm almost to the point where I'm gonna get channel locks and force it. I figure if I'm gonna have to tear into the steering column I might as well break something.

 

Wow. I man handled it with channel locks, heard a snap, and now it works.
