88 camaro 2.8

Ok not sure if this is the correct section... But anyway...

I just bought a 88 camaro 2.8. Was told they drove it home one day car was kinda acting like bad gas(choking cutting out). The next day they said it never ran again.

So I started looking around and found out the fuel pump was dead. SO i replaced and the motor fired right up. But my main problems are its idling at around 3800 even know the motor doesnt sound like it is.

When I hit the throttle it almost cuts out and chokes and some times even pops a little before catching. Once it catches it sounds like its missing.

Now here is some thing I found a bit weird.. I replaced the TPS but for the life of me I can't set it correctly. I have a multi meter and i am getting 4.96 volts out of the blue wire on the TPS at closed throttle?

And one other odd thing. When I first put the key in and turn it to the on position I don't get any engine lights,or dummie lights at all.

Ive also tried unplugging sensors while the motor is running to see if it triggers a check engine light and it doesnt.

I am starting to think maybe it has a bad computer?? Any help at all would be very appreciated.

Things ive done.

1.Fuel pump
2.wires and plugs
3.new MAF
4.new TPS(although can't adjust it)
5.Checked for Vac leaks(didn't find any)

If the CHECK ENGINE light bulb isn’t burnt out, it’s either a bad ECM or the wiring going to it.

That probably would explain why I can't set the tps correct or get the rpm to adjust or the lig ht to even come on.

An easy way to determine whether the computer is working somewhat is to check for closed/open loop function.

The idle should lower upon shift to open loop.

Ok... Thats a little over my head. care to shoot me in the right direction on how to check this?

Thanks.

P.S I am looking at a 89 firebird computer wondering if that would also work in the 88 camaro.
