How DO i no if i need to run an EGR ? 350 swapped into the car

HI i am putting a 350 into my camaro and i am not sure if i need to run an EGR valve or not for the intake manifold ?

im in NJ and i want the car to be street legal, i have on a set of summit racing headers and a extreme energy comp cam ( 242-12)

this is my first v8 im doing and first project car, would i have a check engine light if im not running the EGR ? i am keeping the cat on it of course but i just don't want to deal with the EGR valve or the smog set up on the car.

i tried looking up some info on it but couldn't find any thing so any advice would help

thanks

Do you have to get an emissions inspection or just a safety inspection? Fastest best answer will come from your local inspections shop - ask them.

It depends on the type of fuel delivery of the 350 engine and computer or lack thereof combination.

Always use EGR, because it does help mpg, and it does NOT hurt power.

EGR has Nothing to do with headers. Use an EGR-style intake manifold, bolt the valve to it, put a thermostatic vacuum switch in the thermostat housing, connect ported vacuum to that, then connect that to the EGR valve.

I used to live in Jersey. They are mainly looking for a cat and your emissions on the dyno. You will probably need a functioning EGR to pass. Are you planning on running a factory fuel system or an aftermarket carb?
