Good price or no for motor work
So My engine guy just called me today and said the bottom end is done
He had cleaned, dipped, bored, decked, new cam bearings + frost plugs, new rear main seal, clearance for 3.750 crank, installed Bottom End, press fit rings on pistons which he said took alittle longer then he thought, He bought all the ARP bolts per my request for $800. Sound like a good deal? My original quote was for $550 and that was without the ARP bolts, without decking the block, he said it was 3 thousands on one end and 4-5 on the other.
I was refered to him by my uncles buddy who had him put together his 600hp motor. He's had his truck for 2 years now with no problem so i took his word that the guy was reliable.
The Original quote i got from a machine shop was almost $1300 without decking the block The money's in the mail for my AFR's, i can see the finish line! its only 1/4 mile away lol

$550 sounds like a half-**** stock rebuild. $800 seems like a high quality stock rebuild. You may have gotten a really good deal, or you may have gotten ripped. Only time will tell.

Well theres really not much stock about this rebuild. $1500 for the bottom end and 800 for machine work and install. He did cut me a break seeing i was refered to him through a friend. Am just so excited! Hopefully dealing with rick on the AFR heads i can get them in by next month, and have the car on the road in 2 months.
Ill take pictures when i pick the motor up next week, its currently located 240 miles away

"Press fit rings on pistons"??? I guess you meant press fit pins in rods/pistons????

Re: Good price or no for motor work
IIRC, I spent about $950 on machine work for my L69.
Block- decked, bored .040 over, honed, align honed
Heads- cut for larger valves, new manley guides, 3 angle valve job.
Crank- polish
Press pins to rods/new pistons
All parts were baked.
Included in the cost were new pistons, plasma moly rings, pins, freeze plugs. I supplied the cam bearings.
Just a 'stock' rebuild...nothing fancy. Sounds like a good deal to me.
I assembled/clearanced it myself though. IIRC, it only took about 2 hours/4 Blue Yummies from bare block to longblock.
