Super Chevy fails again.
Last month, their 305 was lame. This month, they goofed a 355 AND a 383, in the same article.
Neither engine wanted 195cc heads nor 1.75" primaries. Both were clearly in the 383's favor. The cam was large for a 355, but non-roller, so not enough lift for the 383.
I've seen a 9.4:1 383 with those heads, but a much tamer hydraulic roller cam, do 490 HP and pull hard to 6500 rpm. It would pass a sniffer test, These would NOT.
Very disappointing.

Re: Super Chevy fails again.
Yea really i take all thoes magazine with a grain of salt. There is a lot of good general information in there. However when it comes to engine builds i dont really have a lot of faith. Not only do i dissagree with some of the things they do but many results are somewhat misleading. For example building high hp motors and leaving the impression that their builds would be great in your everyday street car or showing the dyno results that boast great numbers however conveniently starting recording the dyno results at 3k ect. Now i realize realistic builds dont sell magazines but thats why I dont buy into them as i realize many of them are just that to sell magazines. Still some important lessons can be learned from them.

I feel I have to keep reading them, just so I can know what newbs keep referring to, and can set the record straight.

Out of all the different car magazines like that, I still feel Car Craft is the best out of the bunch. They still make mistakes but their info is more for the hands on car guy.
I hate seeing a car layout of something like a Pro Street car. The car looks pretty but reading the text, the combination looks all wrong or if it does have a good combination, very rarely do they put any performance results in the article to back it up.
Reading all those articles are good for getting ideas but don't rely on them for valid information on how to do something. Real world testing on your own vehicle can easily surpass the results of an article.
