How bad could this be?
Okay, so I'm looking into picking up my second Thirdgen! This one is local, it came from a lot in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It was repossessed, but has a city cleared title. It's a 1991 Camaro Z28, 305tpi, Automatic. It's got 168,000 miles on the clock, original motor and tranny as far as the dealer knows. It's a hardtop car, with the grey cloth interior. It's in okay-rough condition. It needs some cosmetic work, but nothing I can't tackle. The car came in, ran and drove great, but one day the alarm started going off, and they couldn't shut it off, so they cut the wires to the alarm and now the car starts, but will not go into drive. Would cutting those wires really cause the car to not go into drive? This car is for sale for $2,000.
My other question is, with almost 170k, should I be worried about the engine, or trans? I just want a Thirdgen to beat around in right now, this car looks like a good start and is rust free as far as I can see.
I have one last question, the rear end has a drum brakes, does this indicate that it is a non-posi?
Thanks!

cant help with everything but here i go, first off i think 2k is a little high for a non running car with that much miles and in rough shape. just seems pretty rediculious for which it seems as an base z28.
and no i dont belive drums indicate a non-posi rear end, but you might just not have a good rear end though. I would personally look for another car with that many miles and your best bet would probaly have it for a car to restore/totaly do over how you like. thats just my
Also if you have 2k for a car, then that means you can put in 2k for your current camaro

I picked out my 85 z28 with i'm pretty sure every option available for that year, manual transmission, but it needed a new carb and a tune up for $1600. Pretty decent body, minimal surface rust and needs some body work on the driver's door and a new passenger fender. I think for 2g's you can find something better, but I would take your primairy play toy and throw the 2 grand at it.

Thanks guys. I have to sell my current Camaro to get this one
I'm so tired of having one that doesn't even start! How much should I offer him?

aww man that bites, whats wrong with it? because 2k i would imagine fix all your starting probs. trust me i know what you mean about just wanting a car that runs, i hate always working on mine it just gets depressing.
I would personally try to hold out and find a diffrent thirdgen, 170k miles is alot and these cars aernt necissarily bullet proof. GOOD luck.
