Cuts out like crazy
Cuts out like crazy
I finally got to move my 86 today so I took it down my driveway and started to get out in the rode and stomped it and it just goes to about 2500 and won't pull any higher and starts missing to the point where it won't pull any faster. Then I got it out into the rode and dropped it in 1st and it just spins for a half a second and does the same thing bogs down to around 2500 and misses. The car has a old Quadrajet with a cracked body letting it suck air but it did this with the new Holley and Edelbrocks I had on it. ( had to use the new carbs on two other cars for the time being) but even with them it cut out at around 3500 with the new carbs so something else is definately wrong what could it be ?

Re: Cuts out like crazy
need more info. checked timing? checked plugs? plug wires? dist cap? rotor?
Is the quad computer controlled? if so do you have a comp controlled dist? if not do you have a vacuum advanced HEI dist?
does car have in-tank electric helper fuel pump? Is it running?

Re: Cuts out like crazy
Don't have a timing light but I've played with the timing a million times. I've had the original computer controlled distributor in it and I've also had one out of a 79 Camaro and it still does the same old cutting out however I did reuse the same rotor and wires but they aren't that old so I didn't think they would be hurt. The wires are the yellow ones but they have black crap all over em so maybe its the wires. The plugs were new when we put the motor together. The engine hasn't gotten maybe 6 hours of run time and thats just in the yard revving it up. I don't think it has another pump other than the one on the motor but I could be wrong its original carb'd car and I've got a see through fuel filter before the carb and it stays full. But I haven't changed my valve springs for my cam but I don't think that would cause it. But its not the carb, the cap, the coil, or the distributor itself because its all been changed. Oh and forgot to mention at steady throttle in neutral it runs smooth as a top but when revved it seems sluggish and when it starts to climb in RPMS thats when it starts missing.
thanks
thanks
