Does this sound like a fuel pressure regulator problem
For the past week my car has be stalling its a 1990 camaro 3.1 v6 with 206,000 miles on original motor. The car starts fine then while driving at any time it wants to doesn't matter up hill ,down hill ,flat ,windy or straight roads at any highway speed the engine cuts out backfires once or twice then catches its self and continues on like nothing happened no ses light no sputtering. Now every once in awhile the car will stall and will not catch it self and i will retry to start car and it will just crank almost like not getting fuel but after it sits for a few mins it will refire and continue on like nothing happened. no ses light. i scanned for codes and got the tps code so installed a new one it stopped stalling for one day then continued to act up again. Im checking fuel pressure tomorrow but was curious if anyone had this happen to them or if knows if a fuel pressure regulator might cause this problem a friend told me it might but wanted to double check. thanks for any insight.

How long since fuel filter change? Dist cap, rotor? Plugs? Check all plug wires for problems, make sure they have no resistance on them, make sure boots are tightly on plugs.

When the car backfires, is it black smoke? if so that sounds like a coolant temp sensor. yes a cts. Could also be a clogged fuel filter or bad fuel injector! You will have to get a mulitmeter and test for ohms on each injector. I dont believe there is a code for a bad fuel injector.

The plugs ,wire ,dist cap ,rotor all about 6 months old. Fuel filter 2-3 years old i did just change it on Friday though when i checked for fuel pressure which turned out to be okay so i think i can rule out the fpr and the fuel pump so i checked spark next seemed to be a little weak yellow to brown at the coil at times so changed the coil but i did not get to test drive it because i left my keys at home so will test drive Monday.

i do not see any smoke when it back fires and its not really loud it just a small little pop and i just replaced the coolant temp sensor about same time of plugs not saying that it could not have gone bad already but isnt there a ses code for a bad cts
