Heres the problem, 85 firebird, key cylinder is about 3-4 months old, key will go in but will not turn to accessory, it will only go backwards to turn on the radio...

This is how it happened:
my girlfriend finally bought an aux in cable for her car so she can listen to her tunes instead of the garbage on the radio. So I pull off the faceplate, and pull out the radio, I walk away to get the cable, she's in the passenger seat, so she thinks it would be a bright idea to pull(force) the shifter out of park with the key off to give me more room to work. Low and behold it messed something up in the column (I'm so far convinced at least.)

I really could use some advice on this one, I searched all over TGO and google with no results.

EDIT: Oh, it will turn forwards, but not enough to turn the power on, and it goes back into the locked position. Steering wheel unlocks and turns fine.

 

In the automatic cars there is a shifter cable that locks the shifter unless the key is turned - sounds like g/f broke that cable.
