305 (L69) overhaul
Hi,
I will soon begin working on my L69, it's in good shape and compressions are even. Cylinders are fine with hone marks still slightly visible. It must have been rebuilt a few years ago as gaskets were not originals and camshaft has been replaced. I'm not rebuilding it, just replace all the gasket and a fresh paint.
The motor was running very fine, but it was ugly and covered with oil and dirt.
Well basically, I wanted to know if there's anything else I need to do other than :
- pull the motor
- strip the necessary
- clean and sand the gasket surfaces
- clean all carbon residues on heads and pistons
- install gaskets (do I need to add some sort of paste for this ?)
- install heads/intake/exhaust manifolds/fuel pump/etc...
- torque bolts where it's required
- paint
- install all peripherals
- put back in the car.
Would you replace anything else than the gaskets ? I have to buy an EGR valve, a new fuel pump to carb line, stock valve covers, and new oil dipstick tube.
Thanks !
PS : don't answer if you want to tell me a 350 is better
