Spark Plugs VS Headers...

So i'm having a hell of a time with my spark plugs.

I'm currently running the Accel header plugs, but the mechanic at the shop told me that those are ****, and i should try and find AC Delco R43 plugs, but i need the shorties, i purchased some today but they seem like they are still going to be a touch to long for the headers. Are there any other plugs besides the Accel plugs that will fit in the tight space? I've been to every shop in town and they all tell me the same thing, that there isn't anything else that short. I have a 383 with cheaper flowtech headers from summit right now. Is there a set of headers that will give me more room for a slightly longer spark plug?

Whats everyone running? What plugs?

Your mechanic is full of ****. I was using Accel shorty plugs when my N/A '88 IROC-Z ran low 10s at the dragstrip, with a built 355. I still have a set, though I don't currently have an engine to use them in, since I went LSx.

Re: Spark Plugs VS Headers...

besides the accel shorties, bosch plugs are shorter lenght
as are OLDER(around 1985-earlier)AC delco plugs
right now running vintage 1982 AC plugs (bought a
bunch at a swap meet years ago)-they fit with both
edelbrock and SLP headers as do the bosch

Re: Spark Plugs VS Headers...

I have always run accel header plugs in my cars if there is little header clearance. You need to find a different mechanic.

What heads you running? I never had a real problem with hooker headers on L98 angle plug type heads.

Re: Spark Plugs VS Headers...

Actually, you need a better header, those things are junk.

I designed mine to fit everything, including good clearance around spark plugs.
