Hi I am new to this...My son and I purchesed a 1986 trans am, we did a tune-up on the car but the problem is after driving the car for a while it acts like it is out of gas and just stops. I will not start again for a while but usually will start up again if we put fresh gas in. We changed the fuel filter and in doing so the guys said that the filter had water in it. We are not sure how long the car sat for with the previous owner. I have been reading up on this issue and most suggest to go buy HEET and put that in to soak up the water. Does anyone have any other suggestions?? Please help my 17 year old son is very disappointed he can not drive the car because it always stops at some point during the drive.

 

First thing I'd check is the fuel pump. Make sure you have good fuel pressure. If not.....could be a clogged or bad fuel pump.

 

Thanks we will probably change the fuel pump if all else fails meaning (HEET)....the guy that changed our fuel filter said he hears the fuel pump hum when we start the car.....the car does start and drive from point A to B and then dies with no warning.
