Getting some SES codes.. need help
I finally found out how to read my service engine soon codes after being told that my car is older than an OBD1 its infact an OBD0...
oh, and the car is an 1988 Pontiac firebird formula 5.0 throttle body injected
ok so I am getting a couple different codes.
1. 12- No reference pulses to Electronic Control Module (ECM).
2. 14- High temperature indicated at engine coolant temp sensor
This one is all set.. I let the engine run too hot while I was putting in a new fan turn on switch.
3. 22- Low voltage at throttle position sensor OR Fuel cutoff relay circuit open or shorted to ground.
4. 23- Low temperature at manifold air temperature sensor OR Throttle position sensor error.
This on is quite tricky to me because the previous owner had plugged up the manifold air temp. sensor with a metal plug and left the sensor hanging. and After I went out and bought a new sensor and plugged it in the car would not idle and it would throw flames from backup out the top of the intake.... This one I really need help with.
5. 43. Low voltage at electronic spark timing circuit.
6. 44. Oxygen sensor lean
Thanks guys I really appreciate your help.
If it helps anymore I can tell you that as of now my car takes a long time to get started. if you turn the key it starts and the idle pulses to 1000 rpm back to around 500 rpm. for a while and then either shuts off or idles back out fine.... Sometimes this happens at random points while I am driving too. I could be at heavy acceleration and the RPMs will just start randomly pulsing.

Re: Getting some SES codes.. need help
Given your getting code 22 and mentioned it takes a long time to start, might need to test/replace the fuel pump relay.
The code 12 is normal - lets you know your in diagnostic mode.
