New TWIST to the No Start experiance !!

I have an 89 TA,5.0TPI that cranks but wont start, and isnt firing. This problem comes and goes,it might start several times and then it just turns over. the fuel press.is fine. So far Ive replaced the dist.,cap, rotor, plugs, plug wires,coil,ECM,p/up coil(even tho it was new),and the battery(it was old),and the ign.lock since the key seemed a little loose. The TWIST to the problem is, about a month ago I unhooked the neg post on the battery, and today I discovered the batt.is completely dead. There HAS to be a dead short somewhere but where do I look. I would never have dreamed that since the neg post was disconected that this could happen. Helllllllllllp !!!!!!!!!!!

what about the factory security system... if it was on i would think that would allow it to turn over but not fire. i seen on here somewhere how to bypass it if that was the problem. u might have to look that up
