Re: coolant leak

It could be leaking internally and either mixing with your oil or burning off in your combustion chamber, depending on where it may be leaking. Check your oil for water spots. If it is leaking into the combustion chamber, you will normally blow white smoke or smell a sweet smell out of the exhaust. Also, check the hose that connects the overflow container to the radiator. This could leak as well, causing a loss of alot of coolant over time. Finally, check that the radiator doesnt have a pinhole somwhere. Look for discoloration on the outside of fins/jacket.

Also, you may consider whehter it was just really low on fluid and needed a couple of fills to fill up all of the air pockets, or if it is truely leaking.

Re: coolant leak

Check for wetness under the coolant overflow--there could be a crack in the bottom allowing coolant to seep out (it can be very hard to see). Also, check the lines above the oil filter. Some cars have plates above it that circulate coolant in that area to cool the oil. Follow the lines back and make sure the connections are not leaking and that the hard coolant lines along the body have not rusted through.
