Low Vacuum

checked the vacuum at the carb and it was low. Around 10lbs. I have checked all vacuum lines and connections. If I place my hand over the carb. the engine speed increases and the vacuum climbs up to almost past 15 lbs. What should I check next?

Re: Low Vacuum

The engine was warm when you tried this? Check your idle mixture.

Re: Low Vacuum

Yes the engine was warm. Adjusting idle mixture has very little affect.

Re: Low Vacuum

How did you adjust the mixture? What kind of carb is this?

Re: Low Vacuum

It is the 4 barrel stock quad. jet. I adjusted the idle screws at the base with the engine idle low and the distributor advance disconnected and capped

Re: Low Vacuum

How far did you adjust them? What direction? What were you looking for while you adjusted? Is this a CCC Qjet, or no?

Re: Low Vacuum

It is not computer controlled. One jet was able to turn in all the way and the engine still idled but was rough. The other screw would stall the engine. I turned both idle screws out two turns. I was looking for improvements in vacuum and an increase in RPM
