what causes engine deiseling??

85 5.0 carb,75000 miles.idle sometimes is at 1300 and when i try to shut it off the engine deisels for about 5 sec. what causes this?

Bad timing, high upper cylinder temperatures. Check the EGR system.

Find out why it idles too high...vacuume leak, carb/AC solenoid applied, lean condition for some reason.......????

Idle too high or timing too far advanced.

My 84 carb. HO idles at 800 a/c off..............
