Whats holding me back?

what is holding my car back, i have a 1992 camaro t5 3.42 gears,

i had a 305 bored .040 over dished pistons, with the 2031 crane cam. everything else stock still had smog (no cats) and everything, ran a 14.6 at high elevation. dont know horse power.

well now i have a 350 .040 over flat top pistons, 193 stock chevy heads, same 2031 cam, headers, no smog,no cats, underdrive pulleys, tpi foil. have not ran it yet, dont know horse power.

i have read somewere sense i have a b4c i have 21lbs injecters, dont know if that is true.

it doesnt feel any faster then it was, feels slower and with the headers (hedman) its alot quieter then it was.

any ideas,

Re: Whats holding me back?

Well, those heads are 64cc chambers, the swirl ports limit breathing to where they are limited to about 3.500-4,000 max. rpm. I'd check around at the boneyards for some vortecs. Problem is heads.

Peak numbers, stock heads:
178 cfm intake
146 cfm exhaust

Re: Whats holding me back?

Well for figuring the size of injectors you need, we'll first have to calculate a ROUGH hp number. These simple formulas will not take in consideration of heads, cam, rockers, etc.

350ci x 5500rpm / 3456 = 557cfm
14.7 atmospheric pressure x 557cfm x 29 / 10.73 x (80F + 460) = 41lb/min
41lb/min x 10 = 410 ROUGH flywheel hp.

now that we have a ROUGH hp number, we can calculate the size of injectors needed.

Injector Flow Rate (lb/hr) = Horsepower x BSFC (we'll use 0.5) / Number of Injectors x Duty Cycle (you never want to go above 85% for long)

So: 410 x .5 / 8 x .85 = 30lb/hr @ 40psi or 31.28lb/hr @ 43.5psi
To be on the safe side and give yourself room to mod I'd get a set of 32-34lb/hr injectors @ 43.5psi and a good tune.

As for a TPI base: http://sdparts.com/details/scoggin-d...-center/sd3816 = $399

You will 100% need a tune after this but it'll wake that bad boy up.

As for the throttle body, the stock 48mm can flow ~700cfm. And if we take our simple ROUGH formulas:

14.7 atmospheric pressure x 700cfm x 29 / 10.73 x (80F + 460) = 51lb/min
51lb/min x 10 = 510 ROUGH flywheel hp.

I wouldn't waste money on a 58mm TB until you get a bigger cam in there.

Re: Whats holding me back?

It's all theory, and those numbers are under ideal conditions with no restrictions. As you stand now with those heads, yes 26's would be plenty. But with your vortecs and running 32-34#'s would allow for a decent amount of modding to still be done for future upgrades. But at the same time wont be a big issue to tune in for minimal mpg loss.

Re: Whats holding me back?

You'll want to have the ECM tuned for a big change like that 21 to 26 or 21 to 32. It's only one parameter that needs changed.

Re: Whats holding me back?

so what do u think about vortec heads, holley stealth ram intake, 32-34lbs injectors and lt4 hot cam? and custom tune.

or should i do differant intake or differant cam,

i can do the hsr intake for the same price for the vortec tpi base.

thanks

Re: Whats holding me back?

You're running out of injector....and yes the heads.

If you do that and lean out, you'll fry the motor.

If you're at 510 HP as the estimate above shows, you're into about 36s.
