Temperature gauge suddenly stopped!!!
Temperature gauge suddenly stopped!!!
Hi,
Today the temperature gauge suddenly stopped working. When I turn on the car, the temp. gauge goes to most right position and then it goes back to the original position and stay there.
Everything seems to be normal. The fans turns on/off while driving the car.
Is it an electical (wiring) proplem? (or)
The temp. sensor that is located between cylinders 1 and 3 has a proplem? (or)
The gauge it self become faulty? (or)
Something else..
Any idea, pls. help. as I no longer able to know the temprature of my car

Re: Temperature gauge suddenly stopped!!!
You've already answered your own question - it's one of the 3. With the key on, take the wire out of the sender and ground it and see if the guage moves from one side to the other - if it moves when grounded, then probably bad sender. If it doesn't move, then probably bad guage or wire.
You can take a ohm tester and check continuity between the wire at the sender and the wire right before the guage under the dash - that will let you know if there's an issue with the wire.

Re: Temperature gauge suddenly stopped!!!
Camaronewbie,
I have a 91 RS and I'm having a problem with my temp. gauge. The temp. gauge starts working like normal and then slowly goes to full hot within about 5 minutes even though I know my engine is not over heating. I've replaced my sending unit and still no change. Then I bought another instrument cluster and swapped out the center section that has the temp. gauge. It still didn't fix the problem. Then I tried putting all my original gauges into the instrument cluster that I bought, again no luck. Of course then I tried putting the center portion from the instrument cluster that I bought back into the instrument cluster that I bought, put it in the car and you guest it! It still didn't solve the problem. So after doing all the swapping out and using two different instrument clusters, all I can think of is that both circuit boards on each instrument cluster's are probably messed up. If you have any idea of what I can try next to fix this problem I would surely appreciate it.
Thanks
