76 - 85 Block Timing Setting

Hi,

What should the factory timing be set at on a 1976 - 1985 350". The garage had to remove my distributor to install the spray windshield washer unit and when they put it back on, I think they messed up my timing. My car starts fine and runs fine but after it's warmed up and I try to turn it back on, it has a lot of trouble starting. Sometimes it won't start at all until I wait about 15 minutes. Makes it a real pain when getting gas. I've done everything from replacing the starter, putting in new plugs, wires, grounding wires, etc. so it has to be the timing it set to high.

Thanks

Initial timing should be 6 degrees without the vacuum advance, though up to 10 should be okay. With the vacuum advance connected to manifold vacuum, you'll have a better end result, and you should have about 26 degrees. Again, slightly more should be okay.

With winter coming, you may find you need to back off on the timing when the weather gets cold.

Re: 76 - 85 Block Timing Setting

Well my timing was at 12 degrees. Turned it down to 8 and now my car starts right up with no hesitation anymore. I don't notice any power loss and it idles / sounds better.

Thanks
