GMPP High Rise intake Hood clearance?

I found a deal from a guy locally on this manifold so I'm going to pick it up in a couple hours from now. I need it to match the Vortec heads I already have. I guess this is the same manifold that comes on the 385 Fastburn engine. Does anyone have any experience with this manifold and a stock hood? How much clearance will there be with a TBI and adapter plate on it? I also have the open element 14 x 3 which I think I may need to lose when I go to this setup or play with the drop base.

Thanks!

Should fit. I have a Victor Jr., Demon carb, and 2" drop base with 3" filter and it fits under the stock hood. I have solid motor mounts and Spohn tubular K-member also, I'm not sure if that puts the motor 100% in the same spot or not though.

Thanks for the input. I picked up the manifold and it doesn't look too much taller than the stock one. I also have a pair of solid mounts as well which will probably go on before I get around to the top end upgrade. Right now my wingnut on the air cleaner hits the hood insulation. The intake is like brand new and I couldn't pass it up for $100.

Re: GMPP High Rise intake Hood clearance?

That will work with the right air cleaner. Edelbrock and most of the 'parts store special' chrome 14x3 drop-base air cleaners have around a 1.5" drop, and that should be adequate. Just make sure the base of the air cleaner you buy has the dimples to clear the float adjustments on a 4150/4160 Holley if thats what you planned to use. Most do, but not all.
