Oil Pressure gauge going crazy

Ok so, I started her up today after being on vacation for a week and while cruising, the oil pressure would randomly spike above 60 for a split second then go back to where it's supposed to be. Also, sometimes while cruising in gear, it will gradually increase pressure up to 58 or so, if i stick it in neutral it will go back to where it's supposed to be for a couple minutes, then start climbing again.

Im hoping that it is just an electrical problem with my oil pressure gauge cuz there are a lot of electrical issues with this car, but before i start ripping things apart, i want to know if anyone else has had this issue..

Maybe the pump is going or blocked? The engine only has 11,000 miles on it and everything was brand new when it was rebuilt.. so this is why i wouldnt imagine it is the oil pump going bad..

its an 87 GTA trans am.

Thanks

Re: Oil Pressure gauge going crazy

Oil sending unit/switch could be going out or the wire from it is loose.

Re: Oil Pressure gauge going crazy

ok, may sound stupid, but whens the last time you changed your oil, and did you change it or did you take it somewhere? i took my suburban to pennzoil to get the oil changed(didnt have time to do it myself) and my oil pressure was all over the place. it ended up being that the guy that changed the oil didnt tighten the filter on all the way, i thigtened it up and its fine. just a suggestion... good luck
