Strange "Not starting" problem
okay, im going to start out with saying that i have completely given up on trying to fix this problem until i get insight on it. with that said.... my car has had this really random problem recently where it will start and sometimes wont.
About 5-6 days ago i started my car went to work and 3 hours later car wouldnt start up. i tinkered with wires and the battery and the car wouldnt start, i also noticed that there wasnt any fuel spurting out of the injectors (305 TBI) when i was trying to start. the motor will crank over and sounds strong but would not start. eventually i was fustrated and messed with more crap to see what it could be and i went to start the car and it fired right up. drove it home and was fine for the next night and all day tom. 2 mornings went to work got out and it did the same thing!!!!! messed with crap again and it started up...
Car was fine for the next 2 days again but yesterday my car wouldnt start and still hasnt. there has been a lot of rainfall the past week and i read up in the manual that this could effect the ignition system. i checked into most of the problems listed in the haynes manual.... It also recently came to me that my key does not have a resistor "chip" in it and the security light stays lit while trying to start (yesterday and today). im not sure if the car is in anti theft mode or what not and im not sure why it would start to bug out now since ive had the car for about a year.
Please any help would be much appreciated cause im ready to ride my bike off a cliff since my car doesnt work!! lol

If your security light is on while you are trying to start the car , then that is your VATS (vehicle anti-theft). Should set a code 46 . Next time it does this run a diagnostic scan with a paperclip in your diagnostic port under your dash. Let me know how it goes. There is a way to bypass your VATS system.

Re: Strange "Not starting" problem
If there were a security issue, the starter would not start, so VATS should not be an issue - but see below.
If there is no pellet in your key, then your VATS has been bypassed by a previous owner - all cars after 1989 had VATS.
Now - it is possible that a previous owner tried bypassing the VATS, then later had a starter issue and grounded or bypassed) the starter enable relay to solve that issue, but the resistor they rigged in place to bypass the VATS has since become loose and now the car starter turns (since SER is bypassed or grounded) but the VATS module is not getting the resistance value need so it's not sending the pulse wave to the ECM to fire the injectors. Phweww! Make sense?
So 1st, I would get under the dash and see what has been done to bypass the VATS, and if it's been done correctly, and if it's all still in tact.

Re: Strange "Not starting" problem
Even if VATS has been bypassed, you still may have the pellet in your key. With VATS bypassed the key just has to turn the ign sw. Security lamp may have been removed if there was a bypass done. Scan codes and look for code 46. If a bypass was performed, it is likely that the fuel enable circuit has either come detached or that the bypass module is not working. It may be a simple wiring issue. As camaronewbie suggested, when a bypass is done the start enable relay is bypassed seperate of the fuel enable. Therefore you may get crank but no fuel enable. Check the starter enable relay to see if its been bypassed. If so look for the bypass module. The PO may have just used resistors. In this case you will want to install a proper bypass module. They sell for about $25.
