Looking to make it sound better

Okay I have an 83 Camaro with a swapped 350 and a 600cfm Quadbarrel Edelbrok Carb on it. As of right now it has a true dual exhaust straight-piped down to the resonators(sp).

It sounds good, but I want to get a more punctuated idle sound. I was told a camshaft is the way to go, but as for engine internals I am not very savvy with all the needed numbers.

I guess my questions range from:

What numbers/specs should I look for when buying a camshaft?
What camshaft brand is the best one for daily driving?
Can i expect HP/torque gains or losses based on which Cam I choose?
What Cams do you suggest?(keep in mind I am not tearing the whole engine apart or anything, if I were, I would be getting better heads too. :-D )

The 350 came out of an 87 Silverado. The carb on it originally was a quadrajet, but the one on it is now is sooooooo much bigger. I was actually thinking of putting the original back on the way it guzzles the gas/my wallet -_-;

A Comp Cams XE262 or something similar is about as big as you can go on unmodified heads.

A 600 CFM Edelbrock is actually a smaller carb than a Quadrajet.
