Oil Sending unit

Hey everyone I installed a tee fitting so i could hook my oil pressure gauge up but its leaks oil at the oil sending unit what would happen if i did not have the oil sending unit??? Because I cant seems to get it tight enough... Like maybe leave the wire plugged in but just not screwed in...
