can't use seafoam to find it. that's silly. do you have headers at all? what about smog equipment? if it's definitely coming from the engine compartment the exhaust manifold gaskets could be bad or there could be a hole in the manifolds or they could be cracked.

I don't know why you were just told you can't and its silly, but yes you can. Anywhere there is a leak smoke will come out.

Dude just put your hand around the headers and feel for puffs of air. A stethescope might work too. I guess seafoam will work, but that all depends on how dirty your engine is, I beat on my cars regularly (not all the time, but enough) so I don't get a whole lot of carbon in the engine to begin with.

Sure you can use seafoam for that, or, you could just look everything over good and look for carbon tracks from the leaks. Start at the manifold and work to the back.

Re: can i use seafoam to find my exhaust leak?

i thought about using a piece of fuel hose or garden hose as a stethescope to see if i can hear it and pinpoint where its coming from
but if i went the seafoam route, what do i do start to finish, do i put it in tge oil? gas? vacuum line? and do i need to change oil afterwards?

putting it through the gas tank or oil, you won't see it comming out through the manifolds like you want. run it through the vac line that comes off the brake booster into the manifold. have someone help you hold the throttle while your doing it cause the car will stall cause of that being a vac leak.

after your done with it take the car for a spin doing a couple wide open throttle runs like 2 or 3 to get all the seafoam stuff out of the motor.

you could run in the oil for about 500 miles or so. but i would change the oil afterwords. it'll clean out the crankcase.

i thought it was a silly way to do it cause of the smoke going into the engine compartment wile being under the hood doing that. i wouldn't want to breathe that stuff in. just a safety issue.

just do what the last 2 guys told you to do. it'll be safer.
